This was an activation by W1SJ and KB1WXM on the day after Near-Fest. The activation coincided with the New England QSO Party and put rare Grand Isle County on the air. Mitch and Bob set up on a rainy day in the deserted park with 500-watt stations. Bob operated 20 meters from his truck and Mitch operated 40 meters from the back of his van. A good number of 40 meter contacts were made on CW, making for a very successful outing

Underhill State Park is the trailhead for Mount Mansfield, a very popular hiking outing. Our group showed up early to an already busy park, where cars were parked way down the road. Park employees saved us locations to park and set up. Bob, Carl and Frank WK1L set up early on 20 meters, while Mitch showed up a bit later and got 40 meters going. While 20 meters was very hot with a lot of DX, 40 was very quiet. We tried two stations on 20 meters for a while, then 40 meters CW and finally 40 meter SSB starting producing. Overall, it was a very productive day.

The two activations, Kill Kare and Burton were only a mile apart, but oOperators got credit not only for two state parks, but also a Vermont Island on the air.
